IM3: Gravograph first machine
The IM3 pantograph: Gravograph first invention in 1938
The IM3 pantograph story begins in 1938, when Norbert Schimmel, a German immigrant, and Werner Dannheisser founded New Hermes Inc in the United-States. Although engraving machines were widely used in Europe, none were available in the US. They decided to improve what already existed and designed the first portable pantograph engraver in the US.
When New Hermes became Gravograph in 1989, the team decided to keep the IM3 as its main manual engraver. The same decision was made when Gravograph became Gravotech in 2021.
Throughout the years our IM3 pantograph remained about the same: a sturdy and precise manual engraving machine that lasts for decades. We are proud to say that the first engraver ever created by our historical founders still is one of our flagships engraving machines, almost 100 years later.
